Description
Two letters and a memorandum of a suggested letter re the commutation scheme, which were originally pinned together by a clip stamped 'Hart's Patent.' The first is a copy letter with the subject 'Salisbury Vicars Choral Estates Commutation' from Charles H Radcliffe to Messrs Macdonald & Brodrick of Salisbury [solicitors], dated 10 Dec 1867, which states that the Ecclesiastical Commissioners for England have provisionally agreed with the Vicars for a transfer of their emoluments to the Commissioners as from Lady Day 1867 - this included the whole of their property except what is set out in Schedule A (part of the letter). The second letter is from Macdonald & Brodrick to the Bishop of Salisbury, dated 20 Dec 1867, re the commutation scheme and states that 'Mr Radcliffe has sent us the plan of the houses proposed to be retained [?of the] Vicars referred to in the draft statute and we send it herewith' (this presumably refers to the copy letter). The third item dated 23 Dec 1867 is endorsed 'Vicars Choral Commutation Scheme – Memoranda for the Bishop', and is headed 'Memorandum of suggested letter.'
