Description
Decree by Walter Kerr Bishop of Salisbury. The Procurator and Commonalty of Vicars of the Cathedral made an agreement with the Ecclesiastical Commissioners for England to make over to the Commissioners their corporate estates for a gross annuity of £960 per annum. This was with the exception of the residences of the Vicars and certain houses and other property in the Close, which are specified in the attached plan. Four of these houses were held under leases for years. Also the advowson or perpetual right of presentation to the Rectory of Laverstock, two sums being the land tax on two houses and gardens in the Close, and an annual payment made by the Dean and Chapter to the Procurator and Commonalty of Vicars called Commons or Commoners Money. It was a condition in the agreement with the Commissioners that the leases for the four houses would not be renewed nor any beneficial leases of the said excepted property be granted. The Bishop ordains that none of the four leases will be renewed but when each one expires the property will remain in the absolute possession of the Vicars. A plan is attached which shows property of the Procurator and Commonalty of Vicars which is not to be conveyed to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners. It is signed by Walter Kerr and Charles King Procurator. It is endorsed 'Salisbury Vicars Choral Estates Commutation Property in City of Salisbury.'
