Description

Notes on eight watercolour drawings of Salisbury Cathedral by Joseph Turner executed between 1797 and 1801 with a transcript of a letter to the Dean of Salisbury from Gerald Agnew and a draft reply from Christopher Wordsworth to Gerald Agnew dated July 1924. Photograph of the eight drawings had been presented to the Cathedral. There are descriptions of the following Turner views of Salisbury Cathedral: North Porch: West Front: Interior Towards the North Transept; Choir and Lady Chapel; Salisbury from the Cloisters; Entrance to Chapter House; Chapter House Interior; South View from Palace Meadow, Choir and Lady Chapel. Also contains; biographical notes on Turner; a transcript By Christopher Wordsworth of the poem 'Church Music, and the Poor Blind Man of Salisbury Cathedral' by W Lisle Bowles (1829).
