Title

Tilshead Farm (Kites' Leasehold)

Description

Material relating to John Kite's lease of a cottage or tenement and ground in Tilshead containing about 16 lugg of ground with the appurtenances (bounded on the east with the farm called the Choristers Farm, on the south by the Street, on the west by a tenement late of John Payne and on the north by Farmer Wadham's orchard), subsequently let to Benjamin Lawes and then to Richard Lewis Hussey (cousin of Benjamin Lawes). See CO/CH/5/1/37. Notes on the history of the lease may be found under T:\Library & Archive\Notes on Collections (Box 281 - Choir Tilshead Bundle Notes on Leases). Two slips of paper were found with the bundle, one marked 'Tilshead Kite's Leasehold' and the other 'Choristers. Tilshead.' These have been rehoused and kept with this sub-sub-sub-series but not catalogued. The material (with the exception of CO/CH/5/4/120-CO/CH/5/4/122) was removed from a larger bundle of Tilshead property records and correspondence relating to Tilshead donations which was briefly listed in the paper catalogue under 'Bundle of letters...and other papers...' (all of the material has been catalogued under the following reference numbers: CO/CH/5/4, CO/CH/5/5, CO/CH/5/6, CO/CH/5/7 and CO/CH/5/8; there was a note marked 'Still to Do' in the middle of the bundle, which suggests that the items had not all been processed). It was thought best to separate the material and arrange it by property and by subject, otherwise largely keeping to the order in which it was found. The initial box list preserving the order in which the material was found can be accessed here T:\Library & Archive\Master Archive Catalogue (Box 281 - Choir Tilshead Bundle Box List (CO.CH.5.4-CO.CH.5.8)).
