Pentecostal Chapters 1668-1670

Description

Documents relating to Pentecostal Chapters between 1668 and 1670. The items from Press 2 were found in a bundle of appointments of proxies and letters of excuse from various prebendaries, with some other items. In the same box was a bundle of accounts, statements and terriers relating to a c1670 valuation of prebends (PR/2). It appears that around this time prebendaries were asked to bring statements or terriers showing the value of their prebends to Pentecostal Chapters for registration (see K. Edwards, Salisbury Cathedral (Trowbridge, 1986), p.194). Several of the items refer to leases and terriers, and CH/11/1668/17 refers to an order to bring the counterpart of a lease and a terrier of the prebend to a Chapter meeting in Whitsun. The appointments of proctors from Press 4 do not all specify Pentecostal meetings, but several do, and as they are all of a similar date and are dated just before Easter it was felt best to catalogue them all together here.
